President's Message March - 2012

Mark AmsterdamDear fellow Columbians,

March is a time for us Columbians to celebrate as March is clearly a Columbia month. Why, you might ask. Because it comes in like a LION.

Here at the Columbia University Club of New York our connection with Columbians and with Columbia University has grown increasingly strong over the past several years.

Our strong, vibrant Columbia Club membership provides an on-going relationship with Columbia University's past and future. Our older members enrich us by their knowledge and wisdom, by their ability to connect our present to our past. Our younger members remind us of our days on campus and the ways in which Columbia has enriched our lives. Together we constitute the strength of the Columbia lion.

Our bonds with Columbia University are visible in many ways. Our university is one of the largest users of the clubhouse. Many of our governors, who hold degrees from ten of Columbia's schools and affi liates, continue to be active leaders on campus. In fact, we have just learned that our governor, Nicholas Rudd '64CC, '66BUS, because of the leadership he has brought to Columbia alumni efforts over the years, will be awarded the University's Alumni Medal at commencement in May.

In addition, we have as governors several people who currently are offi cers of the University. Donna MacPhee '89CC is Vice President for Alumni Relations. Kenneth Catandella is Senior Executive Director, CAA and University Relations. And Dan Baker '76CC is Director of Donor Relations, Principal Gifts. These three governors keep us informed of events and activities on campus, and those being undertaken by CAA, the Columbia Alumni Association. They also bring to the Club the support of the University, which strengthens our Club in many ways.

We'd like to see all you Columbia lions at our Club. Come for a terrifi c meal, a fun happy hour, or just stop by to relax and read a book or newspaper or keep abreast of what's happening on campus by picking up a copy of The Spectator.

I look forward to seeing you at our Club.

Warmest regards from midtown,

Mark Lemle Amsterdam '66CC, '69LAW
