An Evening with Governor David Paterson

An Evening with Governor David Paterson

The 2013 New York City election cycle has been the most competitive in 12 years and the most entertaining in recent memory. From open seat contests for every citywide office and four out of five borough president seats, to the emergence of former Governor Eliot Spitzer as a candidate for city comptroller, to Anthony Weiner’s comeback attempt in the mayoral race, the election cycle has been memorable. With major party nominees set for mayor and other offices and the future of New York in the post-Bloomberg era on the line, it is time to start looking at how we got to this point and where does New York go from here.

Join us as we discuss this year’s New York City election cycle with someone who brings a deep understanding of New York’s political world: David Paterson, the 55th Governor of New York. Serving from 2008 to 2010, Governor Paterson moved into the Executive Mansion following over two decades in state and city politics. Prior to becoming governor, he served as lieutenant governor, minority leader of the state Senate and as a longtime state senator from Harlem.

Governor Paterson will be interviewed by CUCNY board member John R.D. Celock ’04JRN. Mr. Celock is the state politics reporter for The Huffington Post, based in Washington, and the author of The Next Generation: Young Elected Officials and Their Impact on American Politics. He has extensively covered New York politics from Brooklyn to Buffalo, including the historic 2001 city elections.

The evening will allow for attendees to ask Governor Paterson their own questions on the city elections. Anticipate answers steeped in Governor Paterson’s keen insights and observations as to where New York is going as Mayor Michael Bloomberg leaves office and what you can expect in the final days of the 2013 elections.
