Christian Sahner: What Happened to Syria – Past, Present, and Future? Sold Out

Christian Sahner: What Happened to Syria – Past, Present, and Future?

Since 2011, Syria has descended into a brutal civil war that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, transformed millions into refugees, and led to the rise of violent extremists groups such as ISIS. Along the way, the domestic conflict has spread across borders and transformed into a regional and global crisis. What caused the conflict and where is it heading in the months and years to come?

Christian Sahner, author of Among the Ruins: Syria Past and Present and a frequent traveler to Syria and the region, will deliver a lecture that examines the civil war against the backdrop of the country’s rich and complicated past. Drawing on his experiences living in the region, he will discuss the rise of the militant group ISIS, the fate of ethnic and religious minorities, and the role of the United States in the crisis.
