The Amateur Comedy Club presents A Shot in the Dark

Club members are invited for an exclusive performance of A Shot in the Dark, an adaptation by Harry Kurnitz of the comedy, L’Idiote, by the French playwright Marcel Achard. The play follows a French magistrate as he investigates a murder in a prominent citizen’s mansion. The plot concerns a free-spirited, guileless and amoral young woman, Josefa, who works as a maid in the home of one of the most prominent families in France. She was discovered in her bedroom, naked and unconscious, with the body of her Spanish lover Miguel across the room and the gun that killed him by her side. Amateur Comedy Club alumna Julie Harris was Josefa in the original Broadway production. An ingenious “whodunit” mystery, A Shot in the Dark is also a cheeky comedy with a very dramatic outlook on love and passion. There are plenty of surprises throughout the show that steadily move the plotline along and keep the audience guessing to the end.

Following the performance, members are invited to a social reception with a wine refreshment in the Amateur Comedy Club’s Green Room to meet the actors.  The performance will be the final dress rehearsal.  Come and enjoy this Broadway-caliber performance in an off-Broadway venue.  Founded in 1884, The Amateur Comedy Club is the oldest continuously operating theatrical society in the nation.  The Club is not open to the public and no tickets are ever sold to performances; attendance is solely for members and their invited guests.  Please meet at the ACC, 150 East 36th Street (bet.
